Another post already!!!

So my host dad brought me into town to see his shop today so I figured I might as well grab the net again while I had the chance.

I have to pay 20 lempira per hour which is roughly a dollar. But they only give us 56 lempira per day so keep in mind that I am sacraficing at least two Pepsis for you guys :0)
Anyway, I am having a good time although I am a bit homesick obviously.

Training is really fun. It is broken down into various sections. In the morning we usually have some kind of cultural lecture, then Spanish classes. Then we eat lunch which is packed by our host families. It´s hilarous to see what everyone gets. People with vegetables are highly coveted as some families can´t afford vegetables, including my own. Trading does occur because throwing out food is a huge insult.

Anyway, after lunch we usually have health, safety/security, and/or job skills training. Saturdays are reserved for team building activities which are usually hilarious. I actually got complimented during one of them because after a few disasters my team lost focus and I jumped in and took charge. Thus is my style. Wait until disaster and THEN jump in ;-)
When I get home I usually play soccer with the kids for awhile. Believe it or not I can hang with the 12 year olds pretty well. Im actually proud of that considering that these kids do nothing but play soccer aaaalllll day. It´s reall fun.  After awhile I feel bad that I´m still playing soccer and I end up asking if the women need help in the kitchen. We are supposed to do that anyway, but it is weird for me because they have a housekeeper who does the cooking. So I´m never sure if I should help or not. But I usually do anyway. (Most people here have housekeepers of some sort. It is not an upper0class ting here. Especially with all of the poor immigrants from El Salvador and Guatemala).

Then we pretty much watch TV and do homework (including myself) until bed.

At the moment I am in a better-off house. When we go to the south (cant say where according to PC rules of blogging) it won´t be the case down there. For example, my currently family has a washing machine but they are showing me how to hand wash clothes because in the south there aren´t washing machines (at least whre we are going) because it is more rural.

Well, honestly that is pretty much everything that has happend thus far. I have taken pictures and even brought my camera into town to upload them but I brought the wrong cord. Argh.

Talk to you all soon and I miss you!

Love,

Becky

Hola, como esta? Sorry, could’ve warned you about the whole toilet paper issue. That was a no-no in Costa Rica also. Had a great time at your going away party. I see karaoke in a WHOLE new light now! Funny that you say that you waited to take charge, I never saw that coming…the whole wait thing. The meat and pastry item, was that an empanada (sp?)? I’m a sucker for those. I probably would’ve died after inhaling eleven of them. I had two big time opportunities for distance learning projects so you know I definitely miss you at work. Wishing you well and stay in good health.

Hola, Beck, what adventures you are already having! I read on another blog about the pila. Can’t wait to hear how the clothes washing is going. For a prior vegetarian, I can understand about missing veggies. Is there a way we can get vitamins to you?

Things are fine here – just trying to get some chores done while Dad can still lift over 5 lbs! Also getting ready for the concert – nothing like being 61 and acting like you are 23 again!

Watch out for those pesky bugs and please say hello to Sonia, Pedro, and the rest of your new family.

Can’t wait for your next blog entry!

    Love,

    Mom
